About Shorecrest

As a preschool through 12th grade independent, non-sectarian, coed, college preparatory school, Shorecrest serves a broad range of students, from the inquisitive and wiggly 3-year-old to the college-bound and career-minded high school senior. Each school is led by experienced educators with expertise in their respective fields, be it early childhood education or adolescent brain development. The curriculum spirals upward, each year building on the previous year's experience.

Shorecrest Preparatory School is located in St. Petersburg, a small city across the Bay from Tampa, Florida, a rapidly growing and major urban center. As a part of the area's fabric since 1923, Shorecrest has deep connections and relationships with over 40 different non-profits in the Tampa Bay region, and particularly strong partnerships with organizations focused on:
  • hunger and food insecurity
  • helping children and families
  • protecting the environment
  • harnessing the power of the visual arts through murals
  • organizing local and international Service Learning travel experiences

  • About the Area

St. Petersburg is located at the hub of the larger Tampa Bay, Florida, area which also includes the cities of Tampa, Clearwater and Sarasota. A system of major roads and multiple bridges spanning the Bay itself makes the entire region easily accessible, and its overall population of over two million supports a wide variety of year-round cultural, athletic, entertainment and shopping opportunities. In addition, mid-state attractions such as Sea World and Walt Disney World are less than two hours away, while Florida's Atlantic Coast and Cape Kennedy are a three-hour drive due east.

Downtown St. Petersburg has seen recent, dramatic growth, with a younger population focusing on education, tech, quality food and locally owned businesses. Bicycles, breweries, fresh produce and outdoor events make this the place to socialize any night of the week. Twenty eight miles of sandy beaches along the Gulf of Mexico provide additional opportunities for paddleboarding, volleyball and just plain relaxing.

    The Climate
Florida's warm, sunny climate is legendary, and Tampa Bay's climate is no exception to this general rule. St. Petersburg enjoys 361 sunny days per year on average, and our mean temperature varies from about 60°F in winter to about 88° F in summer. The rainy season runs from June through the end of November, but the typical summer weather pattern sees long sunny days punctuated by afternoon thunderstorms which generally clear before sunset.
